NISE awarded government grant for cutting edge work in healthcare

NHS Innovations South East, led by the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, has been awarded a government grant of £700,000.

The successful bids were announced at an event at the Natural History Museum in London. Science and Innovation Minister Ian Pearson said: “This type of commercialisation makes a direct contribution to the DIUS innovation agenda that I set out in the ‘Innovation Nation’ White Paper earlier this year. It enhances public services through creativity and knowledge.”

.

NISE’s team of highly-qualified Innovation Managers has recently helped pioneer and mainstream a host of new developments in patient care, including a high-tech electronic device to help dementia-sufferers; a new voice-recognition system for use in clinical genetics; a surgical device to help recovering stroke patients and revolutionary new software for the management of clinical trials.

This is the third time NISE has successfully won funding under the government’s Public Sector Research Exploitation programme.  Commenting on the award NISE Chief Executive, Dr. John Stedman, said

“I am absolutely delighted that our application has been successful. I believe this award recognizes both the quality and value of the company’s work to date and the potential of the projects we currently have on our books. The award is good news for everyone in the region who uses or works in the NHS, as it will help innovation deliver improved patient care, better patient outcomes and cost-savings for the NHS.”
