EDGE - all systems are go!
\"All Systems Go!\" was very much the case when NHS Innovations South East successfully launched EDGE at the ABHI Innovation Conference at Olympia on the 25th June. EDGE is the third generation Clinical Trial Management system developed by Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust in conjunction with the University of Southampton. Dr Tony Hill, NISE Senior Innovation Manager explained,\" EDGE has continuously evolved over the seven years to meet the changing research needs within the NHS and clinical academia environments. The broad and relevant functionality within EDGE is testimony to the many NHS and clinical researchers who have contributed over the years to the development of this secure, hosted solution\". Delegates at the ABHI were treated to live demonstrations of EDGE and were shown how it enables clinical trial staff to better manage and monitor trials.
The implications for both UK Clinical Research and Industry are significant. Real-time management of trial data such as patient accrual data etc via a secure web portal start to open a range of possibilities for Industry, and supports the UK in a competitive global clinical trial market. Dr Hill said\" It is early days but we are already starting to get queries from industry about \"EDGE-enabled\" Clinical Trial sites.\"
EDGE is provided as a complete hosted solution from Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust and it currently supports in excess of 150 research sites across England.
